Meryl Lefkovich

Self-taught, I began painting in 1994.

While organizing photographs of past European travels, I realized that there are places of such presence that they resonate within our being, compelling us to return, if only in our imagination and memory.

In recreating a landscape, I strive to evoke the symbolic, spiritual and enigmatic qualities of a time and place. Realism accurately portrays the architectural elements that contribute to the soul of place, yet the image is essentially an idealized version of reality. Rumination reveals the previously unseen within the landscape. The viewer's connection to the environment is often from the outside, looking in to a place of peace and tranquillity.

Within the past year, I find my focus has shifted, shaping the reality around me to better suit my needs. Less realistic, more illusory and imaginary, place is more representational of an inner emotional and spiritual state. Figurative elements, the intimation of human or soulful presence suggests our search for inner peace and a place within rather than without.

I work in both watercolor and acrylic media. In response to repeated requests for previously sold original images, I have developed a series of limited edition giclee prints. Commissions are always welcome. I work with galleries, designers, art consultants and collectors to satisfy fine art needs for residential and corporate spaces.

Thank you for viewing my work. I appreciate your thoughts and feedback. If you would like to receive updates on new original paintings, prints or exhibitions, please email me so I may add you to my mailing list. - Meryl
